Yesterday was a hard day of remembrance for all of America. It reminded us that we too are subject to acts of war.
Every year I feel it’s important to revisit my day…that day…September 11th.
I was in college and had skipped class, yet again….
I flipped on my small television to find the same news coverage on every channel. It was something about a bombing and I at first thought it was the Sears tower. Then I was like, no this is some kind of sci fi prank….
Prank was on me. It was real. I called my best friend who was still sleeping and woke her up. We watched the live coverage of Katie Couric on the streets of the New York. We watched as people jumped to their death to avoid being smashed to smitherins by collapsing floors above them.
It was horrible.
Classes were cancelled and it seemed that everyone knew someone that was in New York…that whole 5 degrees of separation is real.
Now the world is a mess. More terrorist attacks on smaller scales, but just as powerful with promoting fear and hate.
We can overcome this! We are Americans! We are all different, but yet united. That’s what sets us apart from the rest of the world!!
So never forget! Never forget the lives that were lost, the men and woman firefighters, civilians, police, guards, office workers, bankers, secratatries…..never forget….
